A relaxing holiday destination
Montenegro is known as one of the safest holiday destinations in the Balkans. Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the country every year to enjoy the beaches, historic cities and impressive nature. Most visitors experience their holiday as quiet, hospitable and without problems.
As in any holiday country, it is wise to pay close attention to your personal belongings, especially on busy beaches, markets and in popular tourist areas. With normal precautions you can discover Montenegro with peace of mind.
Hospitable people
One of the first things many visitors notice is the friendly attitude of the locals. Montenegrins are proud of their country and are happy to help tourists find their way. Whether you ask for directions, want advice about a restaurant or need help with a problem, someone is often ready to help you.
Safe driving
With a rental car or your own car you can discover Montenegro at your own pace. Keep in mind that mountain roads are sometimes narrow and winding. Take your time, enjoy the views and be aware of unexpected animals or cyclists crossing the road.
Along the coast the roads are modern and well maintained. In summer it can be busy on popular routes, such as between Bar, Budva and Kotor.
Healthcare
In larger cities such as Podgorica, Bar, Budva and Kotor there are hospitals, pharmacies and general practitioners. Always take a European health insurance card (EHIC) with you and, just to be on the safe side, take out good travel insurance.
